2019 State-Wide Goals

SFSP - Summer 3

The School Nutrition Unit has been busy evaluating the impact of the 2018 summer meals program and setting goals to reach more youth in 2019. The first 2019 goal is to increase access in underserved areas, specifically Prowers, Gilpin and Eagle counties, by maximizing the types of meal services offered (e.g. adding breakfast, snack or supper) and implementing innovative feeding models (e.g. mobile meals and non-traditional site locations). The second goal for 2019 is to increase program participation through community outreach and promotion and sponsor training and support.

Please use the USDA Capacity Builder Map to locate opportunities to reach more kids in your community and visit the Outreach Toolkit to download materials to help promote your program. To learn more about School Nutrition's strategic plan and how you can get involved, contact Ashley Moen at moen_a@cde.state.co.us or 303-866-6653.

Public Notice

Per the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Policy Bulletin SP15-2018, CACFP12-2018, SFSP05-2018, state agencies must submit requests to waive Child Nutrition Program requirements to their Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) regional office. The CDE School Nutrition Unit has submitted the following state-wide waivers to the Mountain Plains Regional Office for the Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option flexibilities and policies that were rescinded by the USDA FNS through SFSP 01-2019 Summer Food Service Program Memoranda Rescission. The goal of these waivers is to reinstate the rescinded flexibilities and policies to allow for efficient and cost effective program management and reduce administrative burden for sponsors and the CDE School Nutrition Unit.
