Charter School Technical Assistance Events

Thank you for visiting our events page. We are pleased that you have an interest in the events that the Schools of Choice Unit offers each year! There are a variety of quality technical assistance and professional development opportunities available to all charter schools operating in the state of Colorado. These events are meant to provide best practices for charter school operations, analyze charter school trends, and identify areas of growth and provide solutions to charter school practitioners in need of optimal support, as it is our goal to help create successful and sustainable charter schools. We hope to see you at one (or many) of our events!

*Please note CCSP Grant recipients must participate in technical assistance events offered by the Schools of Choice Unit as a prerequisite for grant funding.*

Charter School Supporting Events

Many organizations have supporting webinars and resources for the charter community. The Schools of Choice Unit acknowledges that there is a need for charter-specific guidance have therefore compiled events below from various organizations that have offered support. October 2021 Events

Protecting the rights of students with disabilities in charter school enrollment – what schools and authorizers need to know.

Date: Thursday, October 28th, 2021
Time: 3.00pm-4pm
Location: Virtually via Zoom Meetings
Details: In mid-August, the United States Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights opened investigations into 22 authorizers and 29 charter schools related to discriminatory practices against students with disabilities in the enrollment process. What were these complaints? Why were they filed? What needs to be fixed? Join us for a training hosted by the Schools of Choice Unit. Learn about the concerns raised that led to the investigation by the Office of Civil Rights, what actions are being taken to address the concerns brought forward, and what schools and authorizers can do to ensure that the rights of students with disabilities are protected in the charter school enrollment process.
 

Board Fundamentals (Fall)

Details: Please join us for Fall Board Fundamentals. This event, which occurs once in the Fall and once in the Spring is designed to provide charter school board members with a clear understanding of charter school board responsibilities. This event also focuses on giving charter school board members with strategies that will strengthen the board and promote strong board governance.
 

November 2021 Events

November Administrator Mentoring Cohort (AMC) Meeting

Date: Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021
Time: 8:00am- 4:30pm
Location:  TBA
Details:  We welcome all of Colorado's charter school leaders! The Administrator Mentoring Cohort (AMC) is designed to build leadership capacity among new charter school administrators and those aspiring to be charter school administrators. Building administrators' skills and capacity positively affects teachers, school culture, school operations, and student achievement. During the 2021-22, AMC meetings will be held in-person at host schools. Virtual options will be available for participates that have a COVID related reason, or extenuating circumstance. Please plan to participate in person unless you have coordinated with the SOC to participate virtually.
 

November Topic Based Webinar

Details:  Join us for our first Topic Based Webinar for the 2021-2022 school year November 9th, 2021, from 11:00am-12:30pm. Topic-based webinars allow the Schools of Choice Unit to provide targeted support on a topic of relevance to a board variety of stakeholders using a technological platform accessible to all.
 

Statewide Business Operations Networking Meeting

Date: Thursday, November 11th, 2021
Time: 9:30am- 11:30am
Location:  Virtual via Zoom Meetings, optional in-person lunch time networking event from 11:30am-12:30pm
Details:  In conjunction with the Colorado League of Charter Schools, the Schools of Choice Unit at the Colorado Department of Education have partnered for another year to bring to you Business Operations Networking Meetings, formerly known as Business Manager Networking Meetings. We have shifted to using the broader term of “operations” to be more inclusive of your scope of responsibilities. The quarterly statewide meetings will remain in a virtual format from 9:30 am-11:30 am for a second year in a roll. Lunch time optional in-person professional networking is also being offered from 11:30am-12:30pm. Information on this professional networking opportunity will be announced closer to this meeting date.
