Charter School Technical Assistance Events

Thank you for visiting our events page. We are pleased that you have an interest in the events that the Schools of Choice unit are offering this year! The Schools of Choice unit provides a variety of quality technical assistance and professional development opportunities to all charter schools in the state of Colorado. These events are meant to provide best practices for charter school operations, analyze charter school trends, and identify areas of growth and provide solutions to charter school practitioners.  Receive optimal support, as it is our goal to help create successful and sustainable charter schools. We hope to see you at one of our events!

*Please note CCSP Grant recipients must participate in technical assistance events offered by the Schools of Choice Division as a prerequisite for grant funding.*

Many organizations have supporting webinars and resources for the charter community. The Schools of Choice Unit acknowledges that there is a need for charter specific guidance and therefore, we have compiled events below from various organizations that have offered support. Equal Access Series: ELD Accurate Identification

Date: Wednesday, May 5th 
Time: 10:00am - 11:30am
Details: Authorizers should ensure that schools have a clearly established, educationally sound method for identifying ELs. While the identification process is clearly articulated by CDE, this webinar will focus on supporting authorizers and school leaders in understanding how systems and structures can be leveraged to ensure accurate identification (i.e. EL identification in school MTSS process, considerations for multilingual students in special education and gifted/talented identification). 
 

Western Slope Seminar

Equal Access Series: Accountability for Non-Traditional School Models

Date: Monday, May 10th

Details: In order to sustain the diversity of existing charter schools and encourage new and innovative charter school models, CSI has undertaken a long-term project to broaden our definition of quality by examining student performance within school models. While we believe that we have a strong and comprehensive accountability system, we want to continue to innovate and make sure that we have consistent and meaningful accountability for all schools as they implement their educational models. This webinar will discuss and explore how authorizers and schools can broaden their understanding of school performance by trying to understand the degree to which different school models have different student success patterns over time. 
 

Topic Based Webinar: How to Combat Unequal Discipline for Students with Disabilities in Charter Schools​

Details: Join us for the final Topic-Based Webinar of the 2020-2021 grant cycle Review of "How to Combat Unequal Discipline for Students with Disabilities in  Charter Schools " facilitated by Candace Hawkins, Esq. Director, General Supervision and Monitoring in the Exceptional Student Services Unit at the Colorado Department of Education. During this webinar Candace will provide an overview of the most common inappropriate discipline taken against students with disabilities, how to implement effective behavior interventions/ behavior intervention plans, and the manifestation determination process.
 

Accountability and School Improvement Training: How to use Non-Assessment Data - Social Emotional Learning Data and Implementation Strategies in the UIP

Details: As this is the second year of the accountability pause, the Schools of Choice Unit is partner with the School Improvement team to provide guidance on non-assessment data in a two part webinar series. During session one learn how to use non-assessment data, specifically, social emotional learning data in your Unified Improvement Plan (UIP).

CCSP Sub-grantee Conference Call

Date: Thursday, May 20th
Time: 10:00am - 11:00am
Details: This almost quarterly convening is offered as a convenient opportunity to check-in with the CCSP grant team and fellow grant recipient peers. The hour is dedicated towards having an interactive discussion of current events & issues, answering questions raised by the group, and receiving guidance and reminders on various grant management practices from representatives from the CDE Schools of Choice and Grants Fiscal Management Units. Calls will be held virtually and possibly recorded; sending discussion topics and questions in advance is most welcome.
 

Board Fundamentals

Details: Please join the Schools of Choice Unit for the Spring Board Fundamentals. Hear hot-topics and learn new strategies to enhance your governing board practices. 
 

June Events

Administrator Mentoring Cohort (AMC) Meeting

Date: Wednesday, June 2nd

Details: Please join the Schools of Choice unit for the last AMC meeting of the 2020-2021 grant cycle. Learn more about the Administrative Mentoring Cohort, Principal and Administrator Induction Program, and much more. 
 

Quarterly Charter Authorizer Meeting 

Date: Friday, June 4th 
Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm
Details: All charter school authorizers are invited to join our quarterly Authorizer Meetings, which are held in collaboration with the Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers (CACSA). Join this virtual event to hear programming updates from CDE, collaborate with other districts and authorizers and share updates on what you are working on. We hope to see you there.  
 

Business Manager Networking Meeting 

Date: Thursday, June 10th
Time: 9:30am - 11:30am
Details: For the second school year in a row, Business Manager Meetings hosted by the Schools of Choice Unit at the Colorado Department of Education in conjunction with the Colorado League of Charter Schools! Join us for our final Business Manager Networking meeting of the 2020-2021 grant cycle on Thursday, June 10th, 2021. 
 

Spring Equity Convening

Date: Friday, June 18th

Details: Please join the Schools of Choice Unit and the Colorado League of Charter Schools for the Spring Equity Convening where we will highlight Post-Pandemic Opportunities for Systemic and Structural Change with a focus on Applying Social Justice and Equity Frameworks to School Improvement and Policy Transformation.

Charter School Boot Camp 

Date: Wednesday, June 23rd - Friday, June 25th
Time: 8:30am - 4:00pm
Details: Please join the Schools of Choice unit and Growing Minds Together LLC for the Annual Charter School Boot Camp. During this event new school developers and development teams will learn key steps in planning , receive expert advice, and explore best practices to develop a robust and sustainable charter school in Colorado.
