Comprehensive Early Literacy Grant Background

In 2012, the Colorado READ Act established the Comprehensive Early Literacy Grant (ELG) Program to provide money to local education providers (LEPs) to implement literacy support and intervention instruction programs to assist students in kindergarten and first, second, and third grade to achieve reading competency. The Comprehensive ELG Program is focused on system-wide early literacy efforts and implementing and sustaining scientifically and evidence-based reading instruction. Application Process:

Applications for the Comprehensive Early Literacy Grant Cohort 7 Program must be submitted through CDE's GAINS Grant Management System. For application training and technical questions, visit CDE's Gains webpage.  Submission of application materials either in hard copy or via email will not be accepted. 

Important Information

Former Comprehensive ELG grantees are eligible to apply if their three or four year grant cycle(s) and sustainability years have been completed and grantees remained in good standing through the duration of their previous grant. Applicants can use the Comprehensive Early Literacy Grant Program Request for Applications (RFA) to access detailed information about the grant.

• January 17, 2024: Application Window is Open -  Apply through GAINS

• January 31, 2024 at 3:00PM MT: Application Information Webinar

• February 2, 2024 at 4:00PM MT: Intent to Apply Recommended deadline

• May 9, 2024: Applicants Notified of Final Award Status on or before this date
