State board approves waivers for state’s first charter school on tribal land
The board approved waivers from state law requested for the Kwiyagat Community Academy which will be Colorado’s first charter school to open on tribal land.

State board supports legislation to reduce state assessments
The board voted to support Colorado House Bill 21-1161, which would reduce the number of Colorado Measures of Academic Success assessments taken by students this spring if the U.S. Department of Education approves a waiver of the federal assessment requirements.

Board considers waivers for Colorado's first charter school on tribal land
The Charter School Institute submitted waiver requests on behalf of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe for a new elementary school. The tribe plans to open Kwiyagat Community Academy on its land in southwest Colorado this fall with a focus on Ute culture, language and traditions.

Final enrollment data for 2020-21 released
The final count of Colorado P-12 students confirms a 3.3% decrease in state enrollment for 2020-21 with the biggest drop in early grades. The state had its first decrease in year-to-year enrollment in over three decades due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
