1. What is an induction program?

An induction program is provided by Colorado schools, school districts, some private and charter schools, approved facilities and/or BOCES and includes supervision by mentor teachers, ongoing professional development and training, including ethics, and performance evaluations. Contact the school principal or the district's Personnel/Human Resources office for information about their induction program.

2. What are the requirements for a professional license?

Completion of an approved induction program is required.

3. What am I required to submit as proof of completion of an induction program?

You will be required to upload a copy of the original certificate of completion of a Colorado approved induction program into your eLicense application.

(Denver Public School District issues a certificate of completion through the staff development department)

4. Can I complete an induction program in another state?

No, the induction program must be approved by the Colorado State Board of Education and completed through an approved Colorado school district, BOCES, or facility.

5. I hold a Interim Authorization and have completed an induction program. Can I apply for the professional license now?

No, you must first hold an initial license before applying for a professional license. The requirements for moving from a Interim Authorization include taking the PLACE or Praxis II assessment in the content area you're licensed in or having 3 years of full-time out-of-state experience in a state other than Colorado for out-of-state graduates.

6. How long is a professional license valid for?

A professional license is valid for five years.

7. Will all my endorsements transfer from my initial license to my professional license?

Yes, every endorsement that is now on your initial license will transfer to your Professional license.

8. I hold a certificate issued by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Am I required to complete an induction program?

No, you are exempt from the induction program. Upload a copy of your NBPTS certificate into your eLicense application in the section regarding the induction certificate upload.

9. How long is a Master's Certificate valid for?

A Master's Certificate adds 2 years to the Professional Teacher license, which is then good for seven years. You can't have a Master's Certificate without qualifying for a Professional Teacher License. You will need to complete two separate applications, one for the Professional and one for the Master Certificate. Renewals will also require two applications, one for the renewal of the Professional and one for the renewal of the Master Certificate.
