Charter School Technical Assistance Events
Thank you for visiting our events page. We are pleased that you have an interest in the events that the Schools of Choice Unit offers each year! There are a variety of quality technical assistance and professional development opportunities available to all charter schools operating in the state of Colorado. These events are meant to provide best practices for charter school operations, analyze charter school trends, and identify areas of growth and provide solutions to charter school practitioners in need of optimal support, as it is our goal to help create successful and sustainable charter schools. We hope to see you at one (or many) of our events!
*Please note CCSP Grant recipients must participate in technical assistance events offered by the Schools of Choice Unit as a prerequisite for grant funding.*

Quarterly Authorizer Meeting

Details: Charter school authorizers are invited to join our quarterly Authorizer Meetings, held in collaboration with the Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers (CACSA). Join this virtual event to hear programming updates from CDE, collaborate with other districts and authorizers, and share updates on your work. We hope to see you there.

CCSP All Sub-Grantee Call (ASGC)

Details: The third and last CCSP sub-grantee convenings offered this year as a convenient opportunity to check-in with the CCSP grant team and fellow grant recipient peers. The call dedicates time for group discussion based on current event topics/issues, Q&A, and CDE guidance and reminders on various grant management practices led by CDE Schools of Choice and Grants Fiscal Management Units. Calls will be held virtually and recorded; sending discussion topics and questions in advance is most welcome.

Board Fundamentals (Spring)

The Colorado Department of Education Schools of Choice Office offers the Board Fundamentals twice per year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring. This training is designed to provide charter school board members with a clear understanding of charter school board responsibilities. This event also focuses on giving charter school board members with strategies that will strengthen the board and promote strong board governance.
In this session, we learn about using Indicators of Distress to evaluate and support our charter schools from Dr. Aimee Evan of Wested. We will also learn about new data dashboards for school leaders and charter boards from Andy Franco and Amy Odell from the Minga Education Group. We will also get an update from the 2024 state legislative session from Dan Schaller from the Colorado League of Charter Schools.

Rural and Non-Metro Charter School Support Forum

Details: During the 2023-24 school year, the Schools of Choice Unit will continue to host the Rural and Non-Metro Charter Support Forum through a six-meeting virtual series. This forum aims to provide belonging, connection, network opportunities, and best practices for rural leaders.
