Audience: Other District/School Staff | Topic: Communication, Deaf and/or Hearing Impairment, Special Education | Hosted by: Office of Special Education
Requirement for School / District Staff: N/A

Face-to-Face format
This training is only open to Colorado Public Educational Interpreters.
This interactive in-person workshop is designed for educational sign language interpreters who want to bring their ASL-English Interpreting skills to the next level!
Participants will explore how to effectively interpret the ASL linguistic features in the source language into the Target Language (English). The interpreting process will be reviewed and discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to first practice with intralingual skills activities. Consecutive and Simultaneous Interpreting exercises will be given to the participants. The purpose of these exercises is to give participants the opportunity to assess others’ interpreting product to ensure message equivalence is evident in the target language (TL).
Feedback forms and a code sheet will be provided to use as a reference when assessing samples of work. The presenter will demonstrate a brief feedback session and provide feedback to the participants while they are doing the hands-on activities. Ultimately, the participants will identify patterns in their rendered interpretation. Once the patterns, both effective and ineffective, are determined, participants will have a narrowed focus of the interpreting components/features they personally need to improve on and the ones to continue incorporating in the interpreting product. This process will assist participants to become more aware of their own interpreting process. This awareness can be applied to future interpreting assignments to ensure they are accurate and effective. They will also have a better understanding of how to assess their own interpreting product.
The activities will utilize a personal voice recorder (usually cell phones), their laptops, and source material videos and transcripts (provided by the presenter).
