Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program: State Board of Education Approval and State Apprenticeship Agency Registration Steps

Authorizing Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Programs is a three-step process handled collaboratively by the Colorado State Board of Education and Colorado State Apprenticeship Agency.

Stage 1: Sponsors must apply and be approved by the State Board of Education.  

Stage 2: After the Sponsor has been approved by the State Board of Education the approved Sponsor can register the Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program with the State Apprenticeship Agency. 

Stage 3: After the State Apprenticeship Agency registers the Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program, the program must apply to the State Board of Education for approval.

The following charts explain the three-stage process: 

Stage 1

Sponsor Approval by State Board of Education

Step 1:

Interested Sponsors submit interest form: Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Sponsor Interest Form

Step 2:

Interested Sponsor meets with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and the State Apprenticeship Agency (SAA).

  • After interested sponsor meets with the state departments, the Sponsor Application will be shared.

Step 3:

Interested Sponsors complete Sponsor Application and submit to CDE (Interested Sponsor will receive this application directly from CDLE and/or CDE.)

Step 4:

State Board of Education approves the Sponsor 

  • The SBE will review Sponsorship applications within 30 days of submission.

 

Stage 2

Program Registration

Step 1:

Approved Sponsors meet with Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and the State Apprenticeship Agency (SAA) to review the Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program development process and application.

Step 2:

Approved Sponsors, CDE and SAA begin feedback loop(s) to ensure all statutory requirements are met and detailed on Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program Development Application.

Step 3:

The Sponsor submits the completed Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program Development Application, which includes Program Standards.

Step 4:

The SAA approves and registers the Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program and Program Standards.

 

Stage 3

Program Approval by State Board of Education

Step 1:

The registered Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Program submits a program application to the State Board of Education.

Step 2:

CDE staff review the program application as well as the program design description and supporting materials then make a recommendation to the State Board of Education.

  • The SBE has 90 days from submission of the application to approve of disapprove the application.
  • CDE will notify the Program Sponsor and SAA of the State Board's decision.
