BS in Engineering with a STEM Teaching Focus Area
The BS in Engineering is a general degree program that allows students to specialize in an area of choice. The BSE degree with a STEM Teaching Focus A rea allows you to earn a teaching license in Math, Science, or Computer Science and to develop deep expertise in integrative design, which will enable you to bridge traditional problem-solving approaches to engineering, creative design, and social sciences in the classroom.
The Teach@Mines curriculum has been designed to prepare math and science teachers exclusively. This means that your classmates will be STEM majors; all your program instructors and mentors will be math, science, and computer science teachers; and most importantly everything you learn will be specifically about teaching your subject area.
The coursework consists of 24 credits of licensure coursework which includes Field Experience; Educational Psychology and Assessment; Dynamic Teaching-Motivation, Classroom Management, and Differentiation of Instruction; two methods courses – Practices in the Field and Teaching Techniques; Practicum; and Student Teaching. All courses are delivered in the evening either on the Mines campus or online.
The T@M faculty consist of practicing teachers and education researchers. You will have a dedicated mentor and advisor who will support you throughout your program and especially during practicum and student teaching.
T@M also maintains close connections with local school districts and facilitates job placement after completion of licensure.
