Alternative Teacher Licensing Program
Relay’s alternative licensure program is an online four-term program for post-baccalaureate candidates who are employed as a teacher of record under an alternative license at PK-12 partner schools. Alternative licensure candidates pursue an endorsement in one of the following: Elementary Education, Middle School Mathematics, English Language Arts, Secondary Mathematics, Secondary Science, or Secondary Social Studies. Upon successful completion of the program and licensure requirements, candidates are recommended for a Colorado initial teacher license and applicable endorsement.
Program completers may elect to continue with their studies and complete a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree by completing an additional two terms of coursework and a capstone project. Elementary candidates may earn a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Special Education by adding a Special Education endorsement to their course of study.
Our approach to preparing teachers and school leaders is unique in the world of higher education. It begins with a curriculum rooted in pedagogical theory and grounded in evidence of what works best in schools. Our programs emphasize the specific teaching and instructional-leadership skills and mindsets that have the greatest impact.
Candidates emerge from Relay’s programs with the skills needed to embark on careers as outstanding educators prepared to support their birth-grade 12 students in achieving the vision set by the Colorado Department of Education’s vision : “All students graduate ready for college and careers, and prepared to be productive citizens of 1 Colorado.”
