Title II, Part B - Mathematics and Science Partnerships

Title II, Part B, Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP), is intended to increase the academic achievement of students in math and/or science by enhancing the content knowledge and teaching skills of classroom teachers. This grant provides districts and schools with the opportunity to partner with faculty from the science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics (STEM) departments in institutions of higher education. Partnerships must include STEM faculty in institutions of higher education and at least one "high need" local school district. Other partners may include public charter schools or other public schools, businesses, and nonprofit or for-profit organizations concerned with mathematics and science education.

MSP programs provide enhanced and ongoing professional development for math and science teachers with the goal of increasing teachers’ subject matter knowledge and promoting the effective use of research-based teaching methods. Over 90 Colorado districts have been involved in Mathematics and Science Partnerships.

    The ED-MSP website provides information about MSP legislation, administrative guidance, resources, conferences and other events, and summaries of evaluation findings. The website is also used for MSP grantees to register for MSP conferences and report annual program implementation and impact reports to the U.S. Department of Education.

    MSPnet is an electronic learning community for the National Science Foundation’s Math and Science Partnership Program.
  • National Science Teachers Association:
    The NSTA is the largest organization in the world committed to promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. Members include science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business and industry representatives, and others involved in and committed to science education.
  • National Council of Teachers of Mathematics:
    NCTM is the world’s largest organization dedicated to improving math education. NCTM is a public voice of mathematics education, providing vision, leadership, and professional development to support teachers in ensuring mathematics learning of the highest quality for all students.
  • The Evaluation Exchange:
    Harvard Family Research Project's evaluation periodical, The Evaluation Exchange, addresses current issues facing program evaluators of all levels, with articles written by the most prominent evaluators in the field. The Evaluation Exchange highlights innovative methods and approaches to evaluation, emerging trends in evaluation practice, and practical applications of evaluation theory.
  • The What Works Clearinghouse:
    The WWC was established in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences to provide educators, policymakers, researchers, and the public with a central and trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education.
