2002-2003 Safety and Discipline Indicators

The 2002-2003 school year had a suspension rate of 15.6 percent. This was a 1.2 percentage point decrease from the 2001-2002 school year (16.8 percent) and a 0.7 percentage point decrease from 2000-2001 school year (16.3 percent). The 2002-2003 school year had an expulsion rate of 0.3 percent. This was equal to the 2001-2002 school year (0.3 percent) and 2000-2001 school year (0.3 percent).

In the 2002-2003 school year, districts reported suspensions and expulsion by the Type of Incident and by the Race/Ethnicity and Gender of students involved. The files below reflect the Race/Ethnicity and Gender of the students who were suspended and/or expelled. Because a student could be suspended more than one time in a school year or could be suspended and later expelled, these tables reflect the number of students by incident. They also contain an Unduplicated Count of students.
