Becoming an Approved Evaluator Training Provider

Credible, fair and professional evaluations of licensed personnel depend on high quality, effective training for evaluators that are consistent across the state. As required in state law, all performance evaluations must be conducted by an individual who has completed a training in evaluation skills that has been approved by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). As such, any person who conducts an evaluation of school licensed personnel must hold a principal or administrator license or complete a state approved evaluation training program.

Approved Evaluator Training Providers for the Colorado State Model Evaluation System (Updated February 2015)

The purpose of Approved Evaluator Training Providers is to allow districts using the State Model Evaluation System the opportunity to use evaluator designees when evaluating teachers, principals or specialized service professionals. Evaluator designees do not hold a principal or administrator's license and must therefore be certified by an Approved Evaluator Training Provider in order to conduct evaluations.

There is an annual process for becoming an Approved Evaluator Training Provider on the Colorado State Model Evaluation System. CDE currently has providers statewide approved to train evaluator designees on the Colorado State Model Evaluation System and effective evaluation practices. Those providers will participate in a renewal process to continue their designation of being a state-approved Evaluator Training Provider. Each winter, the annual process to become a training provider starts around November and this year’s process is already underway.

Approved Evaluator Training Providers for Systems Other than the Colorado State Model Evaluation System

The purpose of Approved Evaluator Training Provider for a unique evaluation system is to allow districts the opportunity to use evaluator designees when evaluating teachers, principals or specialized service professionals.  Evaluator designees do not hold a principal or administrator’s license and must therefore be certified by an Approved Evaluator Training Provider in order to conduct evaluations using a unique district system.

There is an annual renewal process for current Approved Evaluator Training Providers for a unique evaluation system, and an application process for any new providers that are interested in using evaluator designees in their system.

If you are interested in becoming a training provider for a unique evaluation system, please contact contact Mary Bivens at 303-866-5194, Tricia Majors at 303-866-6678 or Courtney Cabrera at 303-866-2332 to obtain application information.
