Program Description: This course focuses on the role of the instructional leader in bringing about desirable changes in instructional effectiveness tow ard student success. Based upon research and recommended practice, students learn supervisory procedures, which encourage the ongoing professional growth of instructional staff. Evaluation and supervision strategies included are: data collection, data analysis, legal aspects, evaluation report w riting, conferencing, goal setting, and focusing on student outcomes. Fieldw ork is included in the requirements for this course. Compliance w ith state law and district guidelines w ill be covered. Other topics include: aligning supervision and evaluation to the state standards for teaching as defined by the Colorado Department of Education, adapting supervision to the needs of the teacher/instructional staff member, technical and human resource skills needed to effectively supervise and evaluate teachers and other instructional staff, linking supervision and evaluation to professional development, the role of supervision as it relates to curriculum development, teaching and learning styles, student performance and assessment, and having effective conversations with teachers/instructional staff about instruction.
