A MESSAGE FROM:

Red Rocks Elementary School

2023-2024

Red Rocks is a neighborhood K-5 school with a focus on educating the whole child on a unique campus aligned to the legacy motto of "United for Children." Student population is approximately 275 students this year. Free/reduced eligible is around 12%, gifted population trends around 10% or more, and, a recent increase of students with IEPs has yet to be reflected in district data dashboards, around 15% of students receive special support with IEPs. The school has seen an increase in families inte… rested in literacy interventions since the adoption of Orton-Gillingham strategies in 2021. Student culture includes a focus on student leadership, with student council and "peer mentors" in 5th grade, and "book buddies" partnerships between older/younger classrooms. Students enjoy various clubs and strong PTA support, including chess, art, track, Taekwondo, Spanish, and others. An annual foot race is held in the Town of Morrison each year and the school is known for stuents who enjoy running. Family partnerships are evident in PTA and in the School Accountability teams. The school is around 60% choice enrollment, leading to high levels of family involvment. Teacher leaders actively collaborate on leadership teams with a strong partnership with administration. New district emphasis on Articles 5 and 10 of the JCEA agreement have long been in place at the school, and each year a team of teachers attends "Adaptive Schools" training to maintain a focus on research-based collaboratoin strategies. Teachers are in year 2 of district literacy curriculum adoption, and staff have noted an increase in student achievement data in literacy since the implementation of HMH and "OG" tools. Teachers collaborate on common agreements, with 2022-23 focus on literacy common agreements for instructional practices. 23-24 focus for common practices will turn to math. As a part of ongoing collaboration, teacher leaders review state, district and school data to identify trends, root causes, and specific next steps reflected in this 23-24 UIP.
