Patterson International serves 267 students in Kindergarten through 6th grade in the Lakewood neighborhood of Colorado. Patterson International was officially authorized as an IB Primary Years Program in March of 2008. Patterson completed their PYP/IB reevaluation in the spring of the 2021-22 school year. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program is a comprehensive, concept based framework which utilizes inquiry as the primary method of instruction. Patterson is a neighborhood school… that serves a diverse population of students. It also became a Title 1 school in 2022-3, with 56% of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch. In January of 2023 the school will have the preschool program, currently located at Patterson Cottages moved into the building and the school will become a Pre K-6th grade school, serving over 400 students. The staff at Patterson is an experienced staff. Many of the members of the staff have been at Patterson over a decade and have continued to be trained in IB. All Patterson teachers K-3 have been trained and completed the CDE Science of Reading, and all teachers 4-6 are in the process or have completed the CDE Science of Reading coursework. Many teachers K-3 completed Orton Gillingham training this past year to build their strategies for early learning. Patterson earned the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award for 2022. in 2022 the school achieved 79/100 points and the school exceeded expectations for growth. ?The Governor's Distinguished Improvement Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On the school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools "exceed" expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and "meet or exceed" expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps.?
