PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
-
INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE
Karen Middleton referred to a book from the 1800s titled "The Enemy
of Books." Some of the enemies listed therein include dust, fire,
heathens, book binders and many others.
"Today, I think the enemy of books is the fact that people don't read them,"
she said, "or know how to read them."
Ms. Middleton introduced a campaign called "Read for the Record," which
proposes that as many people as possible read the same book on
the same day, and thus enter the "Guiness Book of World Records." This year,
they are asking everyone to read "Ferdinand the Bull" on Sept. 20.
