About

The Office of Adult Education Initiatives (AEI) is an eight person team that provides federal and state grant funding and technical assistance to non-profits, community colleges, and school districts that offer adult education services. AEI manages over $7 million in funding. This funding is authorized by the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) under Title II of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and under the Adult Education and Literacy Act of 2014 (AELA) with the goal of helping adults gain basic and secondary education skills to improve their job, career, and economic outcomes.

AEI’s vision is to  contribute to community success through collaboration that transforms individual lives, and this is done in collaboration with other offices at CDE, in particular the offices that are part of the division of Student Pathways: Postsecondary Workforce Readiness; Dropout Prevention and Student Re-Engagement; Health and Wellness. AEI also collaborates with partners identified in WIOA to ensure that any adult who wants adult education services can get connected with relevant programs within the Colorado “one stop” system.
