Principals and district leaders gathered recently at KIPP Northeast Denver Middle School to observe how the Montbello-area charter school has become one of the Denver metro area’s highest-performing middle schools.

The Bright Spot visit  – an initiative by CDE’s Transformation Network to spotlight successful educational programs throughout the state – highlighted KIPP Northeast Denver Middle School’s high-quality instructional materials, instructional coherence, grade-level instruction, and systems supporting electronics policies.

Poudre High School in Fort Collins has garnered attention for its innovative approach to supporting ninth graders' transition to high school by offering six unique pathways: Agriculture and the Environment, Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Design, Entrepreneurship, Health Science and Human Services, and International Baccalaureate. These pathways are designed to keep students engaged and focused on their educational and career goals.

The Lights On After School national event to recognize and celebrate quality afterschool programs occurred at more than 8,000 programs throughout the country on Oct. 24, including in Thornton, Pueblo and Grand Junction. 

Like many school districts, Garfield RE-2 School District on the Western Slope had a problem getting kids to consistently come to school after the pandemic, when only 86% of the students were attending school every day.
