SLP Workshop Series: Speech Sound Disorders: Choosing and Using the Right Treatment Approaches

This SLP Workshop Series is presented by Dr. Kelly Farquharson, Ph.D.

This comprehensive workshop will introduce educators to evidence-based interventions for school-based SLPs working with children who have speech sound disorders. It will cover three evidence-based treatment approaches for working with students with disabilities - specifically speech sound disorders - with a focus on high fidelity of implementation, target selection, and word selection. The workshop will be interactive and will include coaching and modeling procedures.

Workshop Components: 

  1. Half-Day in-person workshop on Thursday, March 14th with two session options:
    • AM - 8:30 am to 12:00 pm
    • PM - 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm
  2. Required: Watch a pre-workshop recording on Dyslexia and speech sound disorders between March 4 - March 14, 2024.
  3. Optional: Post-Workshop Virtual Coaching Sessions held via Zoom (from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm) on the following Tuesdays: 
    • April 9th - Topic: Dyslexia/Reading
    • April 16th - Topic: SSD Treatment
    • April 23rd - Topic: Open Question and Answer,

Registration will be available from Tuesday, January 9th through Monday, February 12th at 5:00 pm.

Additional Workshop Details

  • In-Person workspace will be held in Thornton, CO.
  • No cost for this training.
  • Space is limited, register early. 
  • Earn 5.5 CEU professional development hours
  • Virtual Coaching sessions are optional, but additional credit hours can be earned and adjusted. 
  • Registration does not guarantee enrollment in the training. The training facilitator will review all registrants. Workshop enrollment will verified via email prior to the training date. 

About the Trainer

Dr. Kelly Farquharson is an associate professor in the School of Communication Science and Disorders at Florida State University. She directs the Children's Literacy and Speech Sound Lab (CLaSS), which has a mission to help children with speech and language impairments achieve classroom success. Her work is published in many peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Farquharson is an affiliate member at the Florida Center for Reading Research and is also an ASHA Fellow.
