The Platte Canyon 2023 budget year saw the district facing new challenges in the way of staffing, facilities maintenance and educational programming. Rapidly increasing costs, especially those related to instructional materials, supplies, and utilities were apparent throughout the district. Targeted areas for the FY23 budget included but were not limited to: • Adopting and purchasing of new geography for 9th grade, 9th-12th statistics, and district wide replacement of English Language Arts workbooks • Negotiating competitive health care and benefits packages for district staff in order to better aid retention efforts • Increases in mandatory PERA contribution as mandated by Colorado State legislation • Continued focus on development of the long-term district Master Plan and sustainability modeling for a K-12 unified campus to promote district wide efficiency, safety and fiscal awareness • Sales of end of life equipment with revenues from sales targeted at vehicle replacement schedules and deferred maintenance costs The District continued to focus on available grant funding securing additional resources from The Colorado Early Literacy Program, Small Rural Achievement funding and continued work with Federal funds provided for COVID relief via the ESSER grant programs, which helped to upgrade HVAC systems at our elementary in winter of 2022. The FY23 budget included an emergency increase for classified staff to address immediate needs due to staffing vacancies as well as a mid-year increase for all licensed staff members to help mitigate staff turnover amidst highly competitive pay increases in neighboring Districts.
