About Sterling High School (8260)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Sterling High School

2023-2024

Sterling High School is a public school providing educational opportunities for secondary students in and around Sterling and is part of RE- 1 Valley School District. It is located in a rural area of Northeast Colorado with agriculture being the main economic force. The Sterling Correctional Facility plays a large part in the demographics of the area. Our 410 students represent a diverse population comprised of 71% white and 25% Hispanic ethnicities. 48% of our students receive subsidized meals.… The median household income for Sterling is $40,956; well below the Colorado median of $72,331. A team of school personnel began the school year analyzing the School Performance Framework. A team comprised of school leaders met to discuss the data received from the School Performance Framework and to develop the building goal included in every teacher's Professional Growth Plan as part of the Teacher State Model Evaluation System. The team also looked at NWEA MAPS data from the first test window this year. This information was then disseminated to the entire staff for evaluation in data teams.. Sterling High School will focus on improving both Academic growth and Academic Achievement and maintaining our status with Post Workforce Readiness, Graduation Rate, and Matriculation. The school-wide focus is on writing across the content areas. This need is reflected in both NWEA data and the SPF. Individual content areas/departments created rubrics to focus on writing-specific skills. Instruction will focus on writing in every class and using cooperative learning strategies, such as Kagan, to improve writing performance. The emphasis on writing will be part of lesson planning and student data analysis.
