Ayres Elementary School serves students in kindergarten, first, and second grades. Ayres is a Title I school serving a high population of low socioeconomic status families with an increasing number of ELL students enrolling, although the overall percentage of students in this population is still relatively low. Research-based curricula is utilized for universal instruction and small groups and includes: HMH's Into Reading and Math Expressions, Heggerty, and Really Great Reading's Countdown, Blas…
t, and HD Word. Lexia CORE5 and ST Math are additional strong supports. Students have daily rotations that include physical education, music, and read aloud, along with weekly rotations of library, art, and Capturing Kids' Hearts lessons. Our Social Emotional Learning is embedded in classrooms and includes tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 supports through our SEL specialist, depending on the needs of students taken care of through our Multi-tiered systems of Support. The district Gifted/Talented specialist provides monthly modeled PETS lessons in every classroom and provides resources and supports to teachers. Students who qualify for special education services are serviced through both pull out and push in models of teaching and learning by highly qualified staff. Ayres partners with Family Resource Center to offer tutoring services here at Ayres every Tuesday for two hours for students who need support. With the end goal of closing achievement gaps and increasing the growth and development of all students, Ayres has been focused on building a strong foundation of streamlined systems of support for both students and staff, including a collaborative approach to create equity across grade levels, involving building the capacity of teachers, examining data and using it to drive instruction, professional development to support this goal, and providing an array of supports to meet the needs of our diverse population.
