MBES is a neighborhood school that is experiencing declining enrollment. Since the 2012-2013 school year when we experienced a peak enrollment of 420 students, we have declined steadily with our most recent unofficial count standing at 163 students in grades K-5. This decline in enrollment has impacted our staffing, budget, and overall service appropriation. In addition, the decline in enrollment has prompted our school district to begin plans for the consolidation of our elementary school, with…
our feeder system middle school, and another elementary school in our feeder system. These three schools began the consolidation process to become a new PK-8 school in the fall of 2021. We are scheduled to open as a new PK-8 in the fall of 2023. The impact of the school consolidation on our school-based community has been observable by the amount of staff turnover and the hiring of new staff in recent years.
