McKinley Elementary School is a true community school that has been in Cañon City for over 60 years and has served generations of Cañon City residents over the years. By educating families for generations, there is evidence that the school truly embraces the family model and continues to honor those beliefs and traditions today. Through hard work, collaboration, and forward-thinking, our school is able to support the collective vision and mission statements which drive our every decision in putt…
ing students first. We also believe these statements directly align with the CCSD's graduate profile which helps prepare our students for graduation and their future aspirations, by introducing the CCSD Traits and Skills at all levels of our school. Over the past few years, McKinley has seen fluctuating assessment scores, high numbers of staff turnover, and fluctuating student enrollment. Our school has experienced fluctuating state testing scores which has resulted in celebrating receiving a Performance rating only to find ourselves receiving a Turnaround rating once again. We will consistently strive to provide the best possible learning opportunities for students while also ensuring each student has their most basic needs met. We will empower students to engage in their learning and we will incorporate CCSD Traits and Skills to develop students who find success now and in the future.In addition, there are continued intentional steps taken to solicit feedback and gain support from all stakeholders including staff, students, parents, and community members. These efforts have paid off and we have created a healthy and positive student-focused culture that is truly contagious. A point of pride for the McKinley school community continues to be our preschool program. Through a collaborative effort with the team at ECHO and the hard work of the Preschool Director/Teacher Kelly Coyle, we will be able to open two more new preschool classrooms. This will support the community in meeting new needs based on Universal Pre-K. These new offerings enabled the program to offer both half and full-day offerings. We are excited to play an even more active role in preparing young students to successfully transition into kindergarten. We are excited to show you the amazing things happening every day here at McKinley School. We are proud to say that at McKinley ALL students find their superpowers!
