Weld County School District RE-1 is located within the rural landscape of northeastern Colorado. The district proudly serves a population of nearly 1650 students in its five schools. Within this population, 54% qualify for free and reduced lunch and 67% of students represent minority populations. While not considered a front range district, the district straddles the complexities of small-town culture and big-city economies of scale with being nestled against Greeley ... Weld County School District RE-1 is located within the rural landscape of northeastern Colorado. The district proudly serves a population of nearly 1650 students in its five schools. Within this population, 54% qualify for free and reduced lunch and 67% of students represent minority populations. While not considered a front range district, the district straddles the complexities of small-town culture and big-city economies of scale with being nestled against Greeley to the north. The district comprises three towns: Platteville, Gilcrest, and LaSalle. Each town hosts an elementary school and LaSalle hosts Valley Middle School. Gilcrest, in addition to an elementary school, also hosts the district's flagship high school, Valley High School. The uniqueness that is a three-town consolidated district brings with it both advantages and challenges to how the district operates, staffs, and funds its schools and programs. The Weld RE-1 Board of Education's vision is together, we are preparing lifelong learners for a changing world. Student safety is exemplified in many ways manifesting in not only physical safety, but also social and emotional safety. We provide a challenging, inclusive, and safe learning environment where every student is equipped to become a contributing member of their greater community. This public school district relies on the State and Federal government to fund the operation of the school. Funding has been a challenge in Colorado for the last decade when school districts were significantly underfunded. RE-1 School District lost approximately $21 million during this time. The information contained on the financial transparency website can be highly informative.
