The first school was erected in 1886 in the form of a one room cabin. Currently the District serves roughly 1,200 students. Enrollment has steadily increased and is projected to continue to experience above average growth over the next five years. The District strives to provide our students with the same experiences that are afforded in much larger Districts. Our students participate in a variety of sports, clubs, and civic activities. Our curriculum includes opportunities for advanced placement, experiential learning, and a growing focus on STEAM. As a result of growth, the District passed a $29 million bond in 2021 to add classrooms to the elementary school and upgrade safety and security across the District. A new building that will house central services was constructed, which will remove those services from the buildings and add additional classroom space. The District has a low, but growing number of at-risk students. The ELL population along with students requiring special education services is growing exponentially. The growth in these areas is creating a demand for additional staff and the financial resources needed to support those programs. SSD grew the fund balance to roughly 45% of expenses. This fund balance will be used to remediate deferred maintenance in the district. The SSD Annual Comprehensive Financial Report includes financials presented under the GAAP along with management’s discussion and analysis and the SSD Budget are located at: https://www.strasburg31j.com/departments-services/business-office
