Mapleton Public Schools is an internationally accredited public school district located in the Thornton/North Denver area of unincorporated Adams County. We are committed to raising expectations, providing choices for learning, and removing obstacles for all students to guarantee all students achieve their dreams and enthusiastically contribute to their community, country, and world. Mapleton Public Schools is an internationally accredited public school district located in the Thornton/North Denver area of unincorporated Adams County. We are committed to raising expectations, providing choices for learning, and removing obstacles for all students to guarantee all students achieve their dreams and enthusiastically contribute to their community, country, and world. Mapleton serves more than 7,000 students in small-by-design, brick-and-mortar schools. Our education models include Dual Language, Gifted and Talented, EL (Expeditionary Learning), STEM, Project Lead the Way, Leadership, Visual and Performing Arts, University Partnership, and online. In Mapleton, there are no "neighborhood schools." This means that instead of being automatically enrolled in a neighborhood school, we invite our students to select from a full menu of schools based on the learning style, interests, and passions of each child. Mapleton also offers a robust preschool program with full-day and half-day options for 3-and-4-year-olds, in-person and online learning opportunities for students in grades K-12, and an alternate pathway to high school graduation for young adults up to age 21. In 2022, Mapleton Public Schools received a six-year national and international accreditation term from the Cognia Global Commission. A systems accreditation by the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission means Mapleton has a nationally recognized mark of quality for the district and each school within the district. It demonstrates Mapleton's commitment to excellence, willingness to grow from feedback, and desire to guarantee all students have the opportunities, experiences, and education necessary to achieve their dreams. Important additional information to note: - Our district formerly incorporated Colorado Connections Academy (CCA) under our district umbrella. In the beginning of Fiscal Year 2022-23, CCA left the district and was incorporated by another district in the area. This is noteworthy because enrollment, revenue, and expenditures will look vastly different from prior years. - Clarification on School Level vs. Central Spending Data: The financial transparency data reflects a high percentage of spending per student at the central level. However, this percentage does not accurately represent the actual allocation of resources to schools due to the way certain districtwide operational costs are coded in our financial system. Why this discrepancy occurs: In our district, several essential operational expenses, such as utilities and some technology services, are centrally budgeted and coded to ensure consistency, efficiency, and equity across all schools. In addition, multiple positions such as custodial services, substitute teacher, special education teachers & paras, security, & health assistants are not broken down by individual school locations in our financial system and are coded as a central expense - 86% of our employees are school based. Our district’s budgeting practices prioritize student and school needs, and a significant portion of resources, both instructional and operational, are indeed allocated to schools.
