Gilcrest Elementary is a small elementary school of 185 students located in a rural community that serves a population comprised of around 65% FRL students, however, we only have about 40% of our students who have filled out the proper paperwork to receive these benefits. The new students we receive are often at risk in multiple areas including academics. Our attendance averages 95% or more each year and we have extremely low occurrence of serious discipline issues. ict provides Gilcrest Elementary the absolute necessities of teacher and student resources. Systems throughout the school are being honed and teachers are being held accountable to implement best-practice teaching and assessment techniques. The implementation of the state evaluation system enables both administration and teachers to identify and explore strengths and weaknesses in a meaningful way. Our schedules continue to reflect, more and more, the learning needs of our students and honor the time they need to gain proficiency. Gilcrest Elementary is fortunate to have the support of Title One funding to hire the equivalent of 1.5 teachers to serve the needs of Title 1 identified students throughout the year. Additionally, we have an 1.5 ELL teachers and a 0.5 aide to support a high percentage of our students who are faced with English language acquisition challenges. The school's UIP was created and is developed over time by all stakeholders. While the actual writing is completed primarily by the principal and instructional coach, the input comes from all staff and parent leaders.
