About DSST: Green Valley Ranch Middle School (2181)

A MESSAGE FROM:

DSST: Green Valley Ranch Middle School

2023-2024

Our school has been pushing for improvement in Math and ELA MGP for two years. We create our plans for the upcoming year, each spring, with the voices of our network experts, leadership team, teacher leaders, and broader staff to ensure we have maximum understanding of and buy-in to our strategies for improvement. We share this process and its outcomes with our internal parent committee and School Accountability Committee to ensure our parents have input and voice in our decisions. We base all o… f our work initially in explicit student outcomes from state testing, internal MAPs testing, and our network interim assessments. Then we layer in stakeholder observations and experiences to ensure we have a full picture of how we are approaching improvement. DSST: GVR Middle School Overview Assessments Administered: * ANet for Math and Lit (4/year) * iReady Math and Reading (3/year) * ACCESS * CMAS * Network and internal summatives on a unit-by-unit basis Curriculum: * Reading/Writing: Reading Reconsidered all grades * Math: Achievement First all grades * Science: network created NGSS * Social Studies: network created * ELD 1/2: NatGeo * ELD 3: Social Studies curriculum adapted School Culture: * We have had a positive and tight-knit school culture for several years that focuses on student voice, relationships, and caring for the whole child. We believe in our approach to students, and the fundamental premise that behavior is a form of communication, and we do as much teaching in executive functioning skills as we do academic content and skills. This year we are using the shared DSST network systems outlined in our strategic plan to promote expectations with positive affirmation and have a clear system of accountability when students aren?t meeting those expectations. We are working on tight data cycles that include a look at disaggregated data to ensure we check that our application of these systems is equitable and serving students. Family Engagement: * We have large engagement opportunities each trimester for parents, as well as weekly advisor contact, Monthly PTA, and quarterly SAC * We now have a 6 - 12 Community Engagement Manager who is deepening our work with our external community partners, feeder schools, and family communities.
