Uncompahgre BOCES is the Special Education Administrative Unit (AU) for the five following school Districts: Ouray, Ridgway, Telluride, Norwood, and West End. As the AU we ensure that we provide special education services that fulfill our obligation under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). We also oversee Gifted Education and run an alternative licensing program for our 5 member districts as well as the Montrose and Delta County school districts. One of the main purposes besides special education services is to look for opportunities for our member districts to combine services in order to save money, provide a wider range of services, and serve a larger number of students within our districts. BOCES staff, independent contractors, School District staff, and administrative teams work together to provide outstanding services to the students in our communities. Each of our five-member districts is its own unique community, and we tailor our services to meet the individual needs of our students while being mindful of the cultural demographics of each community. The Uncompahgre BOCES is funded by local participation, state, federal, and other miscellaneous grants. The following is a breakdown of state, federal, and local monies received by Uncompahgre BOCES: ECEA – 30.45%, IDEA – 19.32%, HB-1345 – 5.76%, SWAP – 3.8%, Federal ARP – 5.34%, Gifted and Talented – 4.74%, Local School District Contributions – 17.06%, Other local revenue - .63%, Other state revenue – 5.5%, Esser II – 3.1%, Miscellaneous grants – .96%, PERA State Pension - .52%, and 15% is housed in reserves.
