The Expeditionary Learning School BOCES, which was established in July, 1993, is one of the smallest school districts in the state and is the governance body for the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning. RMSEL is a K-12 school of choice, in partnership with Aurora Public Schools, Cherry Creek Schools, Denver Public Schools, Douglas County Schools, Littleton Public Schools, and the Public Education and Business Coalition, operating under an intergovernmental agreement with these districts to provide choice to students and families seeking the expeditionary learning model. Due to the nature of the operating agreements, RMSEL serves students from all over the Denver metro area. RMSEL has been accredited with distinction for the past several years. The information contained on this financial transparency website can be very informative. However, comparisons of BOCES and school districts should be done with caution as no two BOCES and school districts are alike. To be consistent with federal reporting requirements established by the U.S. Department of Education, the method used on this website excludes certain records from revenue and expenditure totals. These records are excluded to avoid duplication or inflation. This method is in contrast to the presentation in the district’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and the district’s budgetary reporting. The district’s reports include all revenues and expenditures as required by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) defined through the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The district’s ACFR includes financial statements presented under GAAP along with a Management Discussion and Analysis. Please contact the Finance Director at RMSEL if you have any questions regarding this data.
