Hayden School District RE-1

Hayden School District has been providing education to students in and around Hayden (located in Northwest Colorado) since the 1920’s. The District currently serves more than 440 students starting with Preschool and continuing through 12th grade on a single campus. Hayden residents helped create the combined campus by moving all three schools onto one campus by passing a Bond issue of $22,296,400 in November 2017. This allowed the ... Hayden School District has been providing education to students in and around Hayden (located in Northwest Colorado) since the 1920’s. The District currently serves more than 440 students starting with Preschool and continuing through 12th grade on a single campus. Hayden residents helped create the combined campus by moving all three schools onto one campus by passing a Bond issue of $22,296,400 in November 2017. This allowed the District to participate in the state’s “BEST” program. Using the Bonds Issued December 2018, and the approximately $41 million in state grant “BEST” funds, the District upgraded and created a new facility for all three schools, PreK/Elementary, Middle, and High Schools on the completed campus with classes moving from their old facilities, in November 2020, to the new campus located at 300 Breeze Basin Blvd in Hayden. Additionally, the district’s tax payers have supported our student’s educational services through passing multiple Mill Levy Overrides (MLO) over the past years. The current MLO is based on those tax levy increases passed between 1994 and 2018 with the last ones passed for both the General Fund, (i.e. staff and their wages) and the Transportation Fund (i.e. Buses needed to replace those which had passed their useful life). The mill levy supporting our Transportation Fund was sunsetted, after the District used the mill levy for three (3) of the four (4) years voters approved. The District is currently being challenged by Xcel’s Just Transition Plan's impact on the local community and its tax payers. We are heading into a new School Financing Formula and working on increasing the rigor needed in our classrooms. At the same time funding is falling behind the demands of most of our school systems. The work of all stakeholders in addressing our prior and upcoming commitments is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
