Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 was established in 1890 and includes the City of Fountain, Fort Carson Military (Army) Installation, Rock Creek, and surrounding rural areas. The District has the highest percentage of military students among Colorado school districts and is one of only thirty districts in the United States considered "heavily impacted" by the US Department of Education. As a result, the District receives additional federal funding to compensate ... Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 was established in 1890 and includes the City of Fountain, Fort Carson Military (Army) Installation, Rock Creek, and surrounding rural areas. The District has the highest percentage of military students among Colorado school districts and is one of only thirty districts in the United States considered "heavily impacted" by the US Department of Education. As a result, the District receives additional federal funding to compensate for lost tax revenues and assist with some of the challenges of serving a military community. For example, Fort Carson is considered a "compassionate assignment" for families of students with special needs thus support staff has been added throughout the District to address the needs of this special population. In addition, military families relocate often resulting in a very mobile student population and the need for additional interventions and behavior specialists. The City of Fountain is growing with new residential developments in progress. The District is nearing completion of a newly constructed school on Fort Carson to replace the existing Abrams Elementary School. Key demographic information of the District is summarized below. Demographics · 150 square miles (96,000 acres) including the City of Fountain and Fort Carson Army Post · 32% of school district (30,799 acres) is within the boundaries of Fort Carson · 13 schools: 1 preschool, 8 elementary, 2 middle, 1 comprehensive high school and 1 alternative high school · 5 schools located on Fort Carson (4 elementary and 1 middle school) · 7,955 students enrolled on October 3, 2024 · 52.65% of students are federally connected (active duty military or civilians working on federal property) · 64.85% of students are eligible for Free & Reduced Lunch · 1,600 students with Special Needs at December 1, 2024 The information contained on this financial transparency website can be very informative; however, comparisons of schools and districts should be done with caution as no two schools or districts are alike.
