Vilas School District RE-5 is a small, rural district located in Baca County in southeastern Colorado. We are proud to serve students in preschool through 12th grade. Our district remains committed to providing personalized, high-quality educational opportunities that prepare students for lifelong success in college, career, and community life. Instructional Focus and Innovation For the FY24–25 school year, Vilas RE-5 continues to prioritize: Core instruction in literacy and mathematics aligned with Colorado Academic Standards. Access to career education, concurrent enrollment, and digital learning platforms. Supporting our diverse learners with individualized instruction. Fiscal Stewardship Vilas RE-5 exercises conservative and strategic financial practices to ensure sustainability. We carefully allocate resources to: Recruit and retain high-quality staff through competitive compensation and professional development. Maintain safe and effective learning environments. Support transportation and food service needs in our rural context. Meet federal and state compliance through accurate and transparent financial reporting. Community and Student-Centered Approach As a tight-knit rural district, Vilas RE-5 values strong relationships with families and the broader community. Whole Child Education in a Family Atmosphere We are committed to: Ensuring equitable access to education regardless of location or background. Providing wraparound support services for students and families. Engaging stakeholders in decision-making that reflects our community’s values and priorities.
