APS students come from more than 130 countries and speak over 160 different languages. Our community is rich in culture, assets and opportunity. APS is located in Aurora, a city on the eastern border of Denver, Colorado, and covers 160 square miles. In the 2021-2022 school year, APS provided a wide range of educational programs to a funded enrollment of 38,021 students. This financial transparency website is the result of state legislation passed in 2014. It requires the Colorado Department of Education to create a website that translates the expenditures and revenues for school districts into a format that is easily understandable. To be consistent with federal reporting requirements established by the U.S. Department of Education, the method used on this website excludes certain records from revenue and expenditure totals. These records are excluded to avoid duplication or inflation of revenues and expenditures. For example, indirect costs, overhead costs, interfund transfers and flow through of funds are not included. This method is in contrast to the presentation in the APS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and the district’s budgetary reporting. APS reports include all expenditures and revenues as required by the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) defined through the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Below are links to documents on the APS website that provide a comprehensive financial profile. These documents should be reviewed along with this financial transparency website for greatest clarity. The APS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report includes financials presented under the GAAP along with management’s discussion and analysis: https://accounting.aurorak12.org/ The budget is a comprehensive document for all APS funds: https://budget.aurorak12.org/documentation/
