P-TECH Fact Sheet
Overview
P-TECH is an innovative partnership between a school district, a community college(s), and one or more local high growth industry employer(s).
- Students begin in ninth grade and continue for up to six years (i.e. high school and two equivalent years of college), and will graduate with both a high school diploma and an industry- recognized associate degree, in addition to gaining relevant workplace skills.
- Students receive intensive student support services, mentoring, job shadowing, internships, pre-apprenticeships, and other workplace educational experiences.
- P-TECH is open to all students, with a special focus on encouraging enrollment of students who are socio-economically and racially diverse, first-generation college students, English language learners, and students with disabilities.
Highlights of 2020-21 Reporting Period
- Eleven P-TECHs have been approved since the inception of this program (HB15-1270)
- 2020-21 total student enrollment (922 students) has increased by 41% over 2019-20 total student enrollment (652 students)
- First-generation college students make up 49% of total student enrollment
- 2020-21 is the second reporting period that provides post-graduation data for P-TECH students. Approximately 58% of 2021 P-TECH graduates are either employed with a P-TECH industry employer partner or in their field of study with an employer at another location, or are pursuing continued education in their P-TECH field of study.
