By Alyssa Pearson, Interim Associate Commissioner

Many different organizations have written summaries to help interested stakeholders digest this new 1000 page law! We have posted a few brief summaries that may help you to understand what is in ESSA and how it is different than what was in No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Included are:
- A summary from the National Governor’s Association which provides a side-by-side comparison of No Child Left Behind, NCLB Waivers, and the Every Student Succeeds Act.
- A summary from the National School Boards Association which includes a timetable for the transition to ESSA and responses to a series of frequently asked questions regarding reauthorization.
- A summary from the Research Department of the Minnesota House of Representatives which offers a succinct two page summary of the new legislation.
- A summary from the National PTA organization meant for parents and families
We hope these summaries will help you and your stakeholders gain a deeper understanding of ESSA.
