Program Description

Course Name:  Preparing English language learners (ELL/ESL/ENL) for Success

Professional Development Institute has a catalog of over 90 online courses for K-12 teachers. We have trained over 125,000 teachers over 21+ years. This particular online course not only helps teachers meet the new CLD requirement, but provides them with a solid understanding of the various ESL models and how to grow their ELL students’ vocabularies and comprehension by setting goals, using their home language and culture, and implementing culturally responsive teaching practices. Teachers will also gain a deep understanding of the levels of language acquisition, best practices for English language development, and will be able to assess students more confidently after completing this course. Diversity, social equity, and the Common Core State Standards are all addressed in this course and are tied in to the strategies presented in this course. Information on ENL best practices is shared as well as specific strategies for incorporating them into the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening, mathematics, science, and social studies. While many classroom examples and strategies are designed for K-6 teachers (the course is designated as K-6), many concepts and background information span to a wider audience of teachers including grades 7-12.
