Educator Preparation Program

Metropolitan State University of Denver

Added Endorsement in Spanish - English Bilingual Education Specialist

Educators seeking to add a second or subsequent endorsement area to their Colorado licenses may do so through the completion of a state-approved program offered by an institution of higher education. The college or university provides advisement concerning specific requirements for the new endorsement. The MSU Denver School of Education offers three approved programs for added endorsement:

Spanish/English Bilingual Education Specialist Added Endorsement
Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (K-12) Added Endorsement
Special Education Generalist (K-12) Added Endorsement

The Bilingual Education Specialist (BES) Endorsement is an additional credential that all licensed educators in the state of Colorado can add to their teaching license. This endorsement is intended for those pre-service and in-service teachers who want to work in bilingual Spanish classrooms. The BES Endorsement provides educators the pedagogy, skills and knowledge to support second language learners in both their primary language - Spanish and also English language development.
