CoMath Update for December 9, 2022

PAEMST Nominations Due January 9

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest awards bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching. The award recognizes those teachers that have both deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in those areas. Recipients of the award receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a paid trip to Washington D.C. for recognition and professional development, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

The 2022-2023 award cycle will award teachers in Grades 7-12. To nominate a teacher (or to self-nominate), see the eligibility requirements and submit your nomination at the PAEMST website. Nomination cycles are a bit earlier on the calendar than they used to be, so please note: nominations are due January 9, 2023, and applications must be completed by February 6, 2023. Colorado has a proud history of recognizing Colorado math teachers with PAEMST awards, so please think about the excellent 7-12 teachers of math in your area and nominate them!

Colorado Math Leaders Website

CML has a new website that you can find at https://comathleaders.org/. We're still populating it with information, but this is where you'll find out about Colorado's high school math pathways work and the Launch Years Initiative, CML's work on math interventions, and other information about the organization and how to participate. Also, please note that January's CML meeting will be on Tuesday the 10th, not the 3rd.

Job Openings

The Academy of Charter Schools are in need of two math teachers for the second semester. A sign-on bonus and improved salary schedule are now in place. Visit the application website for more information. (Thanks, Kristen!)

High School College Entrance Suite of Assessments Request for Proposal

As required by state statute, CDE on Dec. 1 released a request for proposals for the next five-year contract cycle of the high school college entrance suite of assessments. CDE's Assessment Division will convene a review committee to evaluate vendor proposals, with an announcement of a selected vendor to be made prior to the end of the 2022-23 school year. The vendor chosen through this procurement will begin administering a new computer-based college entrance suite of exams to students in ninth, 10th and 11th grade starting in spring 2024.
