Elementary Praxis Content Exam: Comparison of 5018 and 5001
The current Elementary Praxis exam #5018 will be offered in Colorado until September 1. After September 1, 2016, the newly adopted Praxis Elementary Exam #5001 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects will be available to be taken in Colorado. Praxis exam #5001 replaces exam #5018 as the required exam. View our Endorsement Requirements page for passing scores for the newly adopted Praxis Elementary Education exam.
- The primary difference between the old and new elementary test adopted by Colorado is that 5018 is a compensatory model, while the 5001 series requires a separate passing score for each sub-test.
- If test-takers do not pass a given sub-test within the newly adopted Elementary Praxis (5001) exam, they would only need to re-take the sub-test they did not pass, rather than the entire exam. View Colorado's Endorsement Requirements page for passing scores for each Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects sub-test.
- In 2015-16, at least 19 states were using the Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (5001), and 12 states were using Elementary Education: Content Knowledge (5018). The performance data to date showed the overall pass rate for 5018 was 69%, while the test takers of Elementary Ed: Multiple Subjects passed at the following rates:
- Reading (5002) 83% passed
- Math (5003) 80% passed
- Social Studies (5004) 75% passed
- Science (5005) 75% passed
To make sure test-takers are prepared, Praxis has multiple free resources on their website . Praxis also offers priced Interactive Practice Tests for those who want the extra preparation.
