Commissioner of Education Search Updates 2023
Overview
In December 2022, Colorado Education Commissioner Katy Anthes announced she will step down from the position in July 2023. One of the primary duties of the State Board of Education is to appoint the education commissioner. Over the coming months, the board will engage with stakeholders to develop a thorough understanding of the qualities necessary for the next commissioner. Updates on the process will be posted on this page.
News
- At its January board meeting, the State Board of Education discussed the process for searching for Colorado's next education commissioner. The board instructed staff at the Department of Education to prepare a request for proposals for an executive search firm to support the search process.
- On Jan. 20 the RFP for an executive search firm was posted on ColoradoVSS, which is the state's system for posting and accessing solicitations.
- View the RFP by clicking on the "Click here for VSS system" icon, and on "Public Access."
- Search for the RFP number 2023000209 or Commissioner Search Firm Solicitation.
- On Feb. 8 the State Board of Education discussed and approved the Education Commissioner Job Description.
- During its March 9 meeting, the board selected McPherson & Jacobson, LLC, to support the process of selecting the next commissioner.
