Technology Information Statement

Colorado Department of Education's website makes extensive use of Active Server Pages (ASP), Adobe PDF, and JavaScript in the design and maintenance of the CDE web site. The WSS Unit continually monitors the site's content for its accessibility to the visually impaired in compliance with Section 508 of the Amendments to the (U.S.) Rehabilitation Act of 1998 (as implemented in Colorado's Information Technology Accessibility Standards for the Visually Impaired Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format file). This page is provided to inform and educate our visitors on how these technologies are implemented in our site and how they effect the average visitor's web browser.

ASP

What is ASP?

ASP is a web application technology from Microsoft. ASP or Active Server Pages are Web documents (typically created using VBScript or JavaScript) that allow for the dynamic creation of web sites and interactive content in web sites. ASP allows the web server to customize or change the content of the page you are viewing with information collected from you through various means such as forms, previous settings or even cookies that your browser has stored for such an occasion.

ASP runs on the web server and not in your browser, so there is no danger of security violation, nor can it "infect" your computer with viruses or run any damaging code.

JavaScript

What is JavaScript?

JavaScript is an interpreted programming (scripting) language from Netscape.

JavaScript allows web designers to enhance web sites with special features such as scrolling text and other visual effects without having to implement special applications on the web server. Although JavaScript was originally developed by Netscape, it does not require you to use Netscape Communicator. It does, however, require you to have JavaScript enabled in whichever browser you are using to access the site.
