Guide to Downloading Microsoft Office Files

 To do this in Microsoft Internet Explorer Try this
Microsoft Office File Save a file without opening it.
  1. Position the mouse pointer over the link for the file you want to save.
  2. Right-click the link (On Mac OS, hold down the Cntrl key and click the mouse button.) to display a pop-up menu.
  3. On Windows choose Save Target As to open the Save File window. On Mac OS choose Download Link to Disk to open the Save window.
  4. Select a destination from the top drop-down list (labeled Save in in Windows). Accept or change the name for the copy and click the Save button.

  1. If after clicking on the file's link, the file fails to open and the following window instead appears:

    choose Cancel and try saving the file without opening it, following the instructions above.
  2. Choose Save As from the File menu  to open the Save As window (On Mac OS, the window is unlabeled.).
  3. Select a destination from the top drop-down list (labeled Save in in Windows). Accept or change the name for the copy and click the Save button.

To do this in Netscape Communicator

Try this

Microsoft Office File Save a file without opening it.
  1. Position the mouse pointer over the link for the file you want to save.
  2. Right-click the link (On Mac OS, hold down the Cntrl key and click the mouse button.) to display a pop-up menu.
  3. On Windows choose Save As to open the Save File window. On Mac OS choose Save Link Target As to open the Save As window.
  4. Select a destination from the top drop-down list (labeled Save in in Windows). Accept or change the name for the copy and click the Save button.
Netscape CommunicatorSave an opened file.
  1. After clicking on the file's link, a window similar to that below should appear: Netscape download window.
  2. If the corresponding Microsoft Office application is installed on your computer, select the radio button labeled Open using (default) and click the OK button to launch the Office application.
  3. If the following window appears, choose Cancel.
     
    Return to step 1. Skip steps 2 and 3 and go straight to step 4..
  4. Select the radio button labeled Save this file to Disk and click the OK button to open the Enter name of file to save to a window.
  5. Select a destination from the top drop-down list (labeled Save in Windows). Accept or change the name for the copy and click the Save button.
