School Improvement Tiered Intervention Grant
The new Tiered Intervention Grant is designed to support districts with chronically low performing schools in the lowest 5 percent of achievement as indicated by state assessments.
The intent of the grant is to provide funding for districts to:
- partner with CDE in the implementation of one of the four intervention models provided in the draft guidance for the use of Federal Title I 1003(g) funds;
- increase the academic achievement of all students attending chronically low performing schools as measured by the state’s assessment system; and
- utilize the support and services from state-approved turnaround
providers in their efforts to accomplish the above.
Definition of Low Performing Schools and List
School Improvement Year One:
http://www.cde.state.co.us/FedPrograms/imp/schimp.aspA school that does not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP http://www.cde.state.co.us/FedPrograms/danda/ayp.asp) for two consecutive years must be identified for School Improvement Year One.
Identifying a school for improvement serves as a formal acknowledgement that the school is not meeting the challenge of successfully teaching all of its children. The identification marks the beginning of the school improvement process, a set of structured interventions designed to help a school identify, analyze, and address issues that prevent student success. The school district will provide a school that is identified for improvement with extensive support and technical assistance in designing and implementing a plan to improve student achievement. The Colorado Department of Education will provide the district with support and technical assistance through this process.
The district must also provide transportation for public school choice for families wishing to transfer their children to a higher performing school in the district.

Approved Turnaround Providers
The Colorado Department of Education will no longer be maintaining a list of approved educational providers for specific grant programs. Instead, as a service to the field, CDE will give providers the opportunity to submit information regarding the services and products they offer. Once a provider profile has been submitted (with all required information completed), the profile information will be made available on the CDE website for districts and schools to access. Please access the list at the link below.
http://www.cde.state.co.us/scripts/EdServiceProviders/index.asp
Providers are asked to submit the information into a web-based form at the following location:
http://www.cde.state.co.us/scripts/EdServiceProvidersReg11/registration.asp
The window to enter information will be open from November 15 - December 15, 2011. Information will be displayed on the CDE website by early January. The window will open again for additional submissions in approximately 4 months, so please continue to check this site for the link.
