Opportunities will be available for Colorado educators at all levels to participate in the development of Colorado's curriculum samples. This timeline and participation guidelines are tied directly to our Development Plan for the Colorado's District Sample Curriculum Project.
Phase III: Teacher Created Instructional Units Based on Curriculum Unit Overviews
Colorado educators continue to be the driving and creative force behind every aspect of Colorado’s District Sample Curriculum Project. In the fall of 2012, 500+ educators created almost 700 sample curriculum unit overviews. Fall of 2013, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) will work with educators to create instructional units based on select samples (unit overviews) created during the first phase of the Project.
In phase III, the content specialists within the Office of Standards and Instructional Support will travel across the state to work with educators in district settings to build the units, which will include learning strategies, resource suggestions, differentiation options, and assessment ideas linked to helping all students master the Colorado Academic Standards.
The CDE plan for facilitating sample curriculum depends on the participation of dedicated teachers throughout Colorado who are responsible for the instructional delivery of standards-based curricula. As with the first phase workshops, the SIS team will diligently pursue the participation of educators to ensure representation of the diverse teaching force and districts across Colorado. View this evolving map of Colorado reflecting the school districts currently participating in Phase III (updated September 25, 2013).
Participating districts will select a team of teachers to attend a three-day workshop delivered within a district. Read our Participation page to learn more about the intentional design of writing teams to ensure instructional units are built to support the success of all students.
Again, thank you for your interest in Colorado’s District Sample Curriculum Project; we are excited about the next phase and continuing our work with the great educators of this state.
