Transition

Transition Resource:

New resources supporting district efforts to transition to the new Colorado Standards are available here.

Our most frequently requested resource at this time is the Transition Action Planning Guide (TAP Guide) which can be used to evaluate a district's existing transition plan or to support a district in creating a new plan.

Once awareness of the new standards' structure is completed, the next step in moving toward transformation is the transition phase. (For information on the new Colorado Academic Standards or Colorado English Language Proficiency Standards, go to the awareness and dissemination part of the Standards Implementation Toolkit).

In the transition phase, a school district's current standards and curriculum are reviewed and compared to the new standards. In this process, differences between the previous and new standards are identified.

Based on your review, a revision of a school district's standards and a design or redesign of curriculum takes place. The timeframe for the transition phase is:

2011 - 2012

2012 - 2013

  • Phase in new standards-based curriculum.

  • Refine curriculum and phase out previous content no longer included in the new standards.

  • Offer ongoing professional development for educators.

For a more detailed description of this process, please review the "Transitioning to the Colorado Academic Standards" document.
