TELL Survey Closes; Read About Next Steps
Thank you to the more than 33,000 educators (55 percent) that completed the TELL Colorado survey. Districts that met the threshold of at least 50 percent participation and/or have schools that met the threshold will receive an embargoed URL to access data at the beginning of April. By the end of April, data will be available publicly. For support, CDE will host a webinar, post guides on how to unpack the TELL data and weave technical assistance into other opportunities (e.g., use of the data in UIP trainings). More details will be provided in future editions of The Scoop.

All UIP Feedback has Now Been Released
CDE has released all feedback for Unified Improvement Plans submitted and reviewed this winter. Superintendents, district accountability contacts and district tracker contacts have been notified of the feedback available in Tracker and received a letter detailing next steps in the process. As a reminder, district-level plans with required changes must resubmit a revised UIP through the UIP Winter Cycle Instrument in Tracker by March 30. Resubmitted plans will be accepted on April 1 due to the submission date falling on the weekend. School-level plans do not need to be resubmitted for review again this year. All districts and schools must submit a UIP by April 15 for public posting on SchoolView. For districts, this is in addition to the resubmission on March 30. District tracker contacts will be able to upload UIPs for posting beginning on March 15 into the UIP Spring Cycle Instrument within Tracker.

Submit Your Annual Four-Day School Week Application
It’s that time again, school districts operating a four-day school week (less than 160 scheduled days per school year) are required to submit a request for approval. In order to be considered for 2013-2014, please complete the application via the Automated Data Exchange (ADE) by May 10. Districts requesting approval are not obligated to follow their proposed calendar if their local planning is not finalized (if you are having difficulty meeting the deadline, please contact Jhon Penn at penn_j@cde.state.co.us).
If you do not know who in your district is responsible for updating the ADE Directory go to: https://cdeapps.cde.state.co.us/respondents.htm#directory. The district directory respondent has a user id and password to enter the ADE Directory and fill out the application.
Please note that CDE is bringing greater scrutiny to those districts Accredited with Priority Improvement Plan or Accredited with Turnaround Plan and are submitting a district-wide application for all schools within the district. The executive director of field services and deputy commissioner must recommend approval of the application before it is forwarded to the commissioner for consideration. CDE will review the use and prioritization of instructional time. In addition to submitting the four-day application through ADE, superintendents whose districts are applying for a four-day week and that fall in the two accreditation categories above need to submit the following additional information separately to Jhon Penn at penn_j@cde.state.co.us: • A copy of their respective school calendars • Building class schedules, assembly schedules, bell schedule including lunch time interval • Professional development calendar

Data Systems
Take the Data Pipeline Readiness Assessment
CDE is closer to completing the implementation of the new Data Pipeline system. Many organizations have expressed interest in a Readiness Assessment. CDE developed this tool to help local education agencies gauge where they are in the transition process from the current Automated Data Exchange system to Data Pipeline. This tool has been completed and is available at the link below.
This tool is best utilized with a team of stakeholders within an LEA who are responsible for the successful implementation of Data Pipeline. CDE does not require this tool to be returned to us; however, if you find that your organization is struggling with a particular element you are always welcome to contact us via email at datapipeline.support@cde.state.co.us.
CDE is developing several webinars which will relate to the different readiness elements assessment. It is not necessary for your LEA to attend all of the upcoming webinars, only those which your district needs additional support on after reviewing and initially completing the Readiness Assessment tool. More information will be sent to respondents. Thank you for your dedication to the successful implementation of Data Pipeline in the 2013-14 school year.

Standards & Assessments
Apply to Review Reading Programs for CDE
The Colorado READ Act (HB 12-1238) requires the department to create a resource bank that identifies assessments, instructional programs, and professional development that will assist teachers with successful implementation. The department is looking for reviewers to assist with identification of instructional resources and professional development for reading to include in the resource bank. Interested educators will be required to complete a brief application and must be available for a full day review process in the Denver metro area.
The review of professional development programs will occur on March 22; applications to participate in this review are due by March 19. The review of instructional programs will occur on March 28; applications to participate in this review are due by March 25.
Earlier this year, the department initiated requests for information to solicit programs for inclusion in the resource bank. The RFIs include evaluation rubrics by which all programs will be reviewed. Copies of the RFIs are available at http://www.cde.state.co.us/coloradoliteracy/ReadAct/programming.asp. All interested educators are asked to complete an application and are advised to read the evaluation rubrics within the RFIs before initiating an application. The online application can be accessed at http://bit.ly/XIQYYd.
