Civil Rights Data Collection Submissions Due Dec. 7
The 2011-2012 Civil Rights Data Collection is open through Dec. 7 for district submissions. Participation is important and mandatory under federal law for every school district, including all state-operated facilities for the deaf and blind, charter schools, and educational programs at juvenile justice agencies. The U.S. Department of Education sent CRDC communications to the contacts you designated this past spring. The collection is conducted by the Office for Civil Rights. Since 1968 they have collected data on key education and civil rights issues in our nation's public schools, proving to be a valuable source of information about access to educational opportunities in public schools.

Requesting Public Comment for ESEA Waiver Amendment 21st Century Community Learning Centers
CDE seeks to amend the state’s ESEA waiver related to the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant program. The amendment will allow CDE to waive the requirements in ESEA sections 4201(b)(1)(A) and 4204(b)(2)(A) that restrict the activities supported by the 21st CCLC grant program.
The flexibility waiver will allow CDE to leverage 21st CCLC funding to support expanded learning time during the school day in addition to activities during non-school hours or periods when school is not in session. The waiver request is not intended to impact current 21st CCLC grantees.
Written comments will be accepted through Nov. 9 and be included in the waiver amendment application.

Participate in a Survey on Credit Recovery Programs
CDE, in partnership with the International Association for K-12 Online Learning is conducting a survey of Colorado public high schools regarding the use of credit recovery programs. Data collected will help identify credit recovery programs currently in place, understand the perceived benefits and shortcomings of existing programs and determine what support is needed to develop more effective credit recovery programs.
District- and school-based staff who make decisions about credit recovery, online learning, alternative education, student academic placement, curriculum, and/or professional development for high school graduation initiatives are encouraged to participate.
Participation in this 35 minute survey is voluntary, but your responses are valuable.
The survey opens Monday, Oct 29 by Noon and can be accessed at the link below.
